Tottenham Hostpur are relishing their underdog label against Real Madrid, according what appears to be a rather incoherent statement from manager Harry Redknapp. The London side are understandably not-exactly-favoured to take a positive result from the Santiago Bernabeu in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final match, and that’s both entirely OK and not OK at all, says Redknapp:
No Pressure On Tottenham Hotspur - Harry Redknapp
I don’t feel pressure. No-one expected us to be here at here at the start of the season and we have a big chance of winning.
We’re not just coming here to turn up, we want to keep progressing. The dream is still there for us, we have to make that dream come true. We want to go all the way if we can. We know how difficult it’s going to be but there is still a chance and we have to take it.
By the sounds of things, Spurs may not be expected to do much by anyone else, but they sure are putting some pressure on themselves. If there were no internal expectations, Redknapp wouldn’t be using phrases like ‘we have to take it’ and ‘we have to make that dream come true’. So, while he can say whatever he liked about Tottenham being the underdogs against Real, you can be very very certain that the manager and his team desperately want something out of this game. That’s real pressure.
