Real Madrid Vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Gareth Bale Hits Side Netting With First Spurs Chance

Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale is still a threat no matter how many men they have on the pitch, and the Welsh winger just reminded everyone of that with a bursting run into the Real Madrid box following a brilliant diagonal pass from centre back and captain Michael Dawson. Bale controlled the long ball in his stride, skipped past Sergio Ramos like the right back wasn’t there and under pressure from Pepe shot just the wrong side of Iker Casillas’ side post, smacking the ball into the side netting.

Bale, who fell a little awkwardly as he shot, then gestured to the bench as though he was having a problem with his back - the injury that kept him sidelined for several weeks before the hamstring scare sustained on international duty appeared. If Bale’s really having a problem here, things could get very, very ugly indeed - but he does look ok to carry on for now.
