Real Madrid Vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Benoit Assou-Ekotto Gives Iker Casillas A Scare

Not content with being camped out in the Tottenham half, the white shirts of Real Madrid have decided to go one better and camp out in Heurelhio Gomes’ penalty box. Spurs are having a very difficult time defending, especially when Emmanuel Adebayor backs into players and lays the ball off to onrushing midfielders. Such is the home side’s dominance that it took almost seven minutes for substitute striker Jermain Defoe to even get his first touch on the ball, but eventually they managed to extract the ball from their half and earn a corner, which was delivered terribly by Gareth Bale and cleared by the first man.

However, Benoit Assou-Ekotto didn’t much care that the ball was cleared and absolutely hammered the ball back into the mixer, giving Iker Casillas a real scare as the shot zipped past his right post. If Spurs after going to get a goal here, they’ve got to do better with their corners, though. They’re not going to get many chances and Bale can’t afford to waste them like that.
