West Midlands derbies are always interesting, not least when they also have a major impact on the relegation battle. This one did: Wolverhampton were in the bottom three when it kicked off, and after a 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion now are not. It was a strange game, however. Wolves were good value for their lead, which was at one point 3-0 after a Steven Fletcher brace which sandwiched a neat volley by midfielder Adlene Guedioura, but the Baggies simply didn't really bother with that 'defending' business, conceding three of the worst goals you'll ever see in the Premier League.

However, the visitors were explosive in the attack, and got back into things with about half an hour to go when Peter Odemwingie converted a penalty, and nearly pulled another back when a blistering effort by Jerome Thomas could only find the post. Had Thomas' shot found its way into the net, the finale could have been very tense, but as it was, Wolves were able to hang on in relative comfort, earning a crucial three points which sees them go to seventeenth, one point clear of Blackpool and Wigan. With two games left to play, they're nowhere near safe yet, but things are getting very very interesting at the bottom of the table.
