No sooner had Liverpool kicked off at Craven Cottage than they were ahead. Luis Suarez did most of the work, driving hard into Mark Schwarzer's penalty area, but his effort was cleared and it looked like Fulham might have got away with things. However, it really wasn't cleared very well, and Maxi Rodriguez was on hand to slot home to make it 1-0 less than a minute into the match.
Fulham Vs. Liverpool: Maxi Rodriguez Gets Liverpool Off To Dream Start
Fulham's rearguard was nearly breached a few more times in the next few minutes, Liverpool thwarted only by luck and bad finishing, but it was only a matter of time before they scored again. Glen Johnson was left in acres of space to saunter down the right, and he played an inch perfect ball to the back post, where Maxi was unmarked. It was simplicity in itself for the Argentine to slot past Schwarzer, who ran into the post trying to make a save.
That's 2-0 Liverpool - inside seven minutes - and it's an absolutely awful start for Fulham, who until now had been an incredibly solid defensive team at home. Clint Dempsey is taking out his frustrations by elbowing Martin Skrtel in the head, which is pleasant.
