Bundesliga, Matchday 5: Morning Wrap, Bayern Munich Throttle Freiburg,
Bayern Munich 7 - 0 Freiburg
That's not a typo. Not content with their 3 goal lead at halftime, Bayern punished their opponents even more in the second half. Mario Gomez scored a hattrick in the second half alone adding to his tally in the first. Nils Petersen finished off the scoring in the match top-netting a cross from Bastian Schweinsteiger. It was the fourth consecutive clean sheet in the league for Bayern in another stellar defensive performance. In their last three league matches, Bayern have outscored their opponents 15-0. Heynckes was able to give Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez some rest before they travel to Spain to face Villarreal midweek in the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund 1 - 2 Hertha Berlin
Whoa. Last season’s Bundesliga champions could not beat last season’s 2.Bundesliga champions at home. An unbelievable team effort from Berlin saw them take the lead in the 50th minute through Raffael. Dortmund’s inability to create scoring chances without Mario Götze was apparent throughout the match. Raffael nearly doubled the lead just six minutes later, but he hit the post. Sven Bender tried to bring his side back into the match, but his long range effort smacked the crossbar. Peter Niemeyer scored a simple goal in the 81st minute to give his side the 2-0 lead. Robert Lewandowski grabbed a goal in stoppage time to bring Dortmund within one, but it wasn’t enough.
Borussia Mönchengladbach 1 - 0 Kaiserslautern
Juan Arango scored the winner in the 58th minute to give the hosts the victory in a match they dominated. Marc-André ter Stegen collected his second clean sheet of the season in goal for Gladbach. This is the third victory for Gladbach this season after only getting ten all of last year. It’s a fantastic start to the season.
Mainz 05 0 - 4 Hoffenheim
Holger Stanlislawski's team put on an impressive performance in the second half to finish off Mainz 4-0. Ryan Babel would get another goal and Nikolce Noveski would put it into his own net. the last goal typified the match for Mainz. Their carelessness in the final third made their dominate possession meaningless. It's a big win for Hoffenheim without Sejad Salihovic who was missing due to a leg injury. Fabian Johnson put in another solid performance for the visitors and has looked really good since moving to the midfield. Hoffenheim's ability to win these early matches will pay dividends in October when Vedad Ibisevic returns from injury to add to their attack.
Stuttgart 3 - 0 Hannover 96
Stuttgart punished a poor performance from Hannover today and picked up a much needed three points. Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Serdar Tasci added to Shinji Okazaki's first half score to get Stuttgart a win after two dour 1-0 defeats to Leverkusen and Berlin. Hannover was simply not good enough today, and they'll have to improve in a hurry as Standard Liege comes to AWD-Arena this week for the first match in the Europa League group stage.
