Wolfsburg road a brace by Mario Mandzukic to a much needed 2-1 victory over Schalke 04. The win was also a major relief for manager Felix Magath picking up a win against the club that fired him in March of this year.
Mario Mandzukic Brace Leads Wolfsburg Over Schalke
Schalke took the lead in the 13th minute on a beautiful piece of team passing. Raul played a ball through to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Huntelaar laid it out wide to the right to Jefferson Farfan. After turning to face the goal, Farfan lofted a little chip just between the Wolfsburg backline and goalkeeper Marvin Hitz. The ball was inch-perfect for an oncoming Raul to smash into the back of the net. The goal was the third of the season for the Spanish forward.
Mandzukic would first strike against the run of play in the 33rd minute. Rasmus Jönsson dribbled into the box, and his cross found the head of diving Mandzukic. The goal was the first of the season for the Croatian international.
It would be another 50 minutes until the back of the net shook again. Marcel Schäfer took a free kick from about 30 yards out. Mandzukic expertly --- or accidentally --- deflected it past a diving Ralf Fährmann to give the home side the win.
