Boris Vukcevic has woken from his coma

The Hoffenheim midfielder has woken from the coma he has been under since his automobile accident.

There is fantastic news out of Heidelberg today with word that Boris Vukcevic has woken from the medically induced coma he has been under for the last month and a half. The Hoffenheim midfielder has been in the coma since he underwent several surgeries in late September due to a car accident.

Vukcevic, 22, is now able to communicate with his family for several hours a day according to Hoffenheim. While the signs of progress are fantastic, it is still too early to determine if the midfielder will be able to make a full recovery. His parents remain at his side and are requesting privacy for their son as he continues to recover from the accident.

Hoffenheim’s sporting director Andreas Müller released the following statement through the club:

“We’re really delighted that things are continuing to improve for Boris. We think about him every day. Of course we, the players and his colleagues, would love to visit him, but that is totally secondary right now. What’s more important is that he receives the best possible conditions for his recovery and we fully understand his family’s wishes.”
