The Houston Dynamo inaugurated BBVA Compass Stadium with a 1-0 win over DC United. Pomp and ceremony were the order of the day as the 22,000-capacity, soccer-specific stadium got its first match, with highlights being an incredibly slow championship banner unveiling as well as what appeared to be a series of surface-to-air missiles firing at orange helicopters overhead (Texas is crazy!).

The opening was a good deal more interesting than the actual game, which mostly featured nothing much at all before Brad Davis spiced things up with a goal in the 67th minute. Houston were comfortably outplaying and outshooting their guests, but didn't come particularly close to a goal until Davis picked up the ball, turned, and curled a shot straight into Bill Hamid's top corner. The goalkeeper got a touch to the ball but couldn't keep it out, and Davis ran off to celebrate in the crowd.
After that, several chances fell Houston's way, with Brian Ching -- an original Dynamo -- spurning two clear opportunities to add to the lead and make the game safe. DC United threw bodies forward as they pushed for an equaliser late on, but Tally Hall was equal to their tries on goal and Houston kept the points.
