La Liga Sunday: Deportivo La Coruña jump out of the relegation zone

Deportivo La Coruña took advantage of Real Zaragoza’s late capitulation against Athletic Bilbao to move back out of the drop zone and into 17th place with two weeks left to play in Spain.

Big happenings at the bottom of the table with only two weeks left to play in Spain. Here’s a recap of Sunday’s action in Spain.

Levante 2-3 Rayo Vallecano

Rayo move themselves up to eight place holding off a late surge by Levante to claim a 3-2 victory. Levante have failed to win in their last seven games and remain stuck in 13th place. Rayo's top scorer gave his side a 1-0 lead in the first half but Robert Acquafresca leveled things up early in the second half. Franco Vázquez put Depor back ahead and Piti added a second on a penalty in the 72nd minute. Vicente Iborra made things interesting with a goal four minutes from time ut Levante were unable e\to finish the comeback.

Deportivo La Coruña 2-0 Espnayol

Depor got a huge win that moved them back out of the relegation zone with two weeks left to play in Spain. It's Depor's first win in five attempts and combined with Real Zaragoza's loss, the Galicians are one point up in 17th. Bruno Gama put Depor ahead five minutes into the second half thanks to a spectacular effort and Nelson Oliveira finished a clever lob in stoppage time to secure the points.

Real Zaragoza 1-2 Athletic Bilbao

Zaragoza slipped back into 18th place and into the relegation zone giving up a lead late and falling to Athletic Bilbao. Hélder Postiga's 14th minute goal looked to have Zaragoza on their way to an important win but Atheltic pulled even in the 80th minute thanks to Fernando Llorente and Ibai Gomez nailed the winner two minutes into stoppage time.

Barcelona 2-0 Real Valladolid

Two first half goals, a 21st minute strike from Pedro and an own-goal by Valladolid's Marc Valiente gave Barcelona 2-0 lead at the break. Valladolid pulled close in the 88th minute when Mario Montoya brought down Manucho, giving the visitors a penalty. Victor Perez score but it was too little, too late for Valladolid to come back in what was generally an awful match.
