If there was any doubt that the LA Galaxy remain MLS Cup contenders, they reminded everyone that they are as good as anyone with their emphatic 4-2 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday. One of those goals was scored by Omar Gonzalez, the man who was just made a Designated Player this week.
Omar Gonzalez taunts Nat Borchers after scoring, and I’m OK with that
Sure, we can agree that what the LA Galaxy’s newly minted Designated Player did was probably not very sporting, but he was also having fun.

But it was what Gonzalez did after his goal that drew quite a bit of attention, at least on Twitter. In case you missed it, here’s the video:
It’s not just that Gonzalez taunted Borcher, it’s how he did it: Almost literally laughing in his face. I’ll agree that this was probably not the classiest goal celebration that I’ve ever seen, but I’m also having a hard time doing anything but chuckling every time I watch it.
Gonzalez is having fun, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s also a sign that there’s a real, organic rivalry developing between the Galaxy and RSL. These two teams have been battling for MLS supremacy since RSL beat the Galaxy in the 2009 MLS Cup final and it continues today.
And let’s be honest, it’s not like Gonzalez did anything “bad.” He won a battle and let his opponent know. If this is as bad as it gets, I think we’ll all survive.
