Little went right for the Montreal Impact in their first CONCACAF Champions League away match. They had a man sent off, hit the bar and finally, Evan Bush gifted Heredia the deciding goal as the Guatemalans came away 1-0 winners.

The Impact didn’t have Lady Luck on their side as Heredia walked away with three points.

The Impact did get one bit of luck and it came early when they gave away an 18th minute penalty, only for Heredia to miss it. Charles Cordoba’s spot kick rattled the cross bar, bounced down on the goal line then out to keep the match level, but that would be the end of Montreal’s fortune.
The match turned in the 44th minute when Adrian Lopez was sent off for a rash two-footed tackle on Cordoba. From that point on, Montreal played for a draw, but they wouldn't get it, not that they shouldn't have.
Montreal were strong at the back and while they rarely committed men forward one they were down to 10, they did limit Heredia’s chances. They defended at all costs and it almost paid off on the other end when they caught Heredia off to get a rare chance of their own, but they hit the bar and they went back to defending.
Unfortunately for the Impact, Bush wasn’t as good as his defender. A weak corner kick was hit right at him, but he couldn’t corral it. It went in his hands, out and then right to Cordoba, who knocked it into the empty net and Heredia had themselves three points.
Heredia's win puts them joint top of the table with the Impact, although the Guatemalans have played one fewer match. The San Jose Earthquakes are bottom of the group without a point.
