David Silva leaves Manchester City’s League Cup match with knee injury

The severity is unknown, and the City star was replaced by Samir Nasri.

David Silva took a knock on his knee early in Manchester City's League Cup match against Newcastle United, and was forced to exit the match less than 10 minutes in. The good news is that he walked down the tunnel under his own power.

In addition to taking Silva out of action, the injury also expedited the return of Samir Nasri, who has missed the last month with an injury of his own. Manuel Pellegrini was probably hoping to get him some minutes in this match, seeing as he was named to the bench, but the City boss probably didn't want Nasri playing 80 minutes in his first game back with the team.

City are fortunate that they're in otherwise pretty solid health, especially with Nasri returning. Frank Lampard missed out on this game, but is likely to return to action soon, while perpetually injured attackers Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero are doing OK at the moment, so losing Silva won't hurt too much, assuming it's nothing major.

Still, City have a Manchester Derby this weekend and have a Champions League match against CSKA Moscow coming up on the schedule, so Silva’s missing some big games if this is more than just a minor knock.
