The second week of play in the Bundesliga came to a close on Sunday with two games that featured exactly zero goals. With all the week's games played Bayer Leverkusen sit alone atop the table as the only side with six points. SC Paderborn -- who are in the top flight for the first time -- sit second with four points, ahead of Hoffenheim, Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich on goal differential.
Bundesliga scores: A pair of scoreless draws close week two
For the week in a row, all of the Sunday matches in the Bundesliga ended in draws.
Mainz 0-0 Hannover 96
Both teams remained undefeated in the young Bundesliga season after a tight, defensive scoreless draw at the Coface Arena. Mainz managed only two shots on goal over the 90 minutes, and the teams only combined for eight total. The best chance of the game fell to Hannover late in the first half when Leonardo Bittencourt's cross found Joselu who forced a save from Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius with a header. Karius was forced to make another save on the ensuing corner to deny Miiki Albornoz. Mainz's first shot on goal didn't even come until the final 30 minutes of the match.
Freiburg and Gladbach played a scoreless draw in another defensive match that featured just seven shots on target. Considering the busy run of games that Gladbach has had to deal with at the beginning of the season -- five competitive matches in 16 days -- a draw on the road isn’t the worst result for them. It’s Freiburg’s first point of the season, and Gladbach’s second.
