Alvaro Negredo loan to Valencia features obligation to purchase?

This seems like something Valencia would not agree to.

Alvaro Negredo has been linked to a loan move away from Manchester City to Valencia, with an option to buy for the La Liga club. That makes perfect sense for everyone. What doesn't necessarily make sense for Los Che is what Phil McNulty of the BBC is reporting -- an obligation to purchase for a whole lot of money.

Valencia are doing pretty well financially these days and could feasibly pay a big fee for Negredo while matching the wages he makes at Manchester City, but it’s tough to figure out why they’d agree to a deal like this. Perhaps they don’t think they can pay for Negredo now, but believe they will when the Nou Mestalla (finally) opens? Or will the obligation only kick in if Valencia qualify for Europe next season? There are a lot of questions that need to be answered here, because on the surface, that’s a very strange deal.

But terms aside, Valencia bringing in Negredo makes a lot of sense. Their only first-team strikers are youngster Paco Alcacer, Jonas and Rodrigo. The latter two have played more recently as an attacking midfielder and a winger, respectively. Negredo would instantly become first choice if he signed for Los Che.
