Two potential big signings undergoing medicals at Southampton

Southampton are about to lock up the signings of Sadio Mane and Toby Alderweireld.

Southampton are about to lock up their two big transfers on deadline day. Red Bull Salzburg winger Sadio Mane and Atlético Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld are both undergoing medicals ahead of transfers to St. Mary's.

Concrete fees haven’t been reported, but the pair is likely to cost Southampton somewhere in the neighborhood of £20m, and they’ll come in on very similar fees.

Given the current state of the Southampton squad, Alderweireld and Mane are likely to become first choice very quickly. Southampton are a bit thin in the center of defense, while wide man Jay Rodriguez will be out with a knee injury until at least October. Southampton had previously bid for Andros Townsend, but with Tottenham Hotspur knocking them back, they've opted to go for Mane instead.

Alderweireld moved from Ajax to Atléti last season, but couldn’t get into the first team ahead of Miranda and Diego Godin. Mane starred in the Europa League for Salzburg last season, and has been utterly dominant in Austria.
