Maria Sharapova is continuing to play up to her fifth seed at Wimbledon, as she has advanced to the quarterfinals after making very quick work of China’s Shuai Peng, defeating the 20th seed in the tournament in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Peng kept things close against Sharapova in the first set, but the second set was smooth sailing for the 2004 champion.

Sharapova had never played Peng and both players struggled to settle in at the start of the match. Peng actually had a couple of break points early on, but Sharapova fought them off, then took control of the match. Peng was broken in the ninth game of the first set to give Sharapova a chance to serve for the set, and she won that service game at love to set the tone for the rest of the match. The second set went much quicker, and Sharapova finished the match with a win in under 90 minutes.
Fans might be treated to a dream quarterfinal matchup if things go according to plan. Sharapova now awaits the winner of the Round of 16 match between world No. 1 Caroline Wozniaki and Dominika Cibulkova.
