2011 Wimbledon: Andy Murray Advances To Fourth Straight Quarterfinals

No. 4 Andy Murray def. No. 17 Richard Gasquet, 7-6(3) 6-3 6-2. Great Britain’s on-again, off-again most favored son of tennis remains “the Brit” and not “the Scot” for at least one day more in the Wimbledon press corps with a too-rare straight-sets defeat of the pesky Frenchman. With just ten unforced errors and 14 aces on Murray’s part, the 2007 semifinalist was dispatched in just a shade over two hours. Afterwards, the greatest hope for a hometown win by a male player at a Grand Slam paid his respects to the royals in attendance:

Murray's made four straight Wimbledon quarterfinals, and the semis in 2009 and 2010. This, you'll recall, is where he traditionally runs into trouble. His next 2011 Championships opponent will be Feliciano Lopez of Spain.
