His next opponent will be Gilles Muller of Luxembourg.

American Mardy Fish has advanced to the fourth round of the 2011 U.S. Open with a straight set win over Kevin Anderson of South Africa at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Fish, the No. 8 seed, had his hands full with the 34th-ranked Anderson, needing over three hours and a pair of tiebreakers to win 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), his third straight-set victory of the tournament. Fish will take on the winner of the match between Spain’s Fernando Verdasco and No. 11 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Roger Federer is through to the fourth round of the 2011 US Open after taking care of Marin Cilic in four sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Federer was tested on Saturday, at least when compared to his first two matches of the tournament, which each lasted just three sets and were convincing wins.
In other action, Caroline Wozniacki easily took care of Vania King in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Wozniacki has played the minimum at the US Open thus far, downing all three of her opponents in a grand total of six sets, none of which were particularly close.

Friday’s action in the 2011 U.S. Open featured a couple of upsets. Maria Sharapova, the No. 3 seed, lost to Flavia Pennetta in three sets and was joined by No. 14 men’s seed Stanislas Wawrinka. The Swede lost to young American Donald Young. Andy Murray had a battle on his hands with Robin Haase, but survived in five sets.
