American Mardy Fish has advanced to the fourth round of the 2011 U.S. Open with a straight set win over Kevin Anderson of South Africa at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Fish, the No. 8 seed, had his hands full with the 34th-ranked Anderson, needing over three hours and a pair of tiebreakers to win 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), his third straight-set victory of the tournament. Fish will take on the winner of the match between Spain’s Fernando Verdasco and No. 11 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Also advancing on Saturday were No. 3 Roger Federer (over Marin Cilic), No. 20 Janko Tipsarevic (over No. 9 Tomas Berdych, who retired in the second set), No. 22 Alexandr Dolgopolov (over Ivo Karlovic), Juan Monaco (over Tommy Haas), and Juan Carlos Ferrero, who advanced when No. 31 Marcel Granollers of Spain retired in the second set.

On the woman’s side, No. 4 Serena Williams upset fourth-seed Victoria Azarenka in straight sets, while No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki advanced with a straight set win over American Vania King.
