The Open Sud de France’s No. 7 and No. 8 tournament seeds both advanced out of their first round matches.
Open Sud de France 2012 Scores And Results Day 2: Philipp Kohlschreiber, Jarkko Nieminen Advance
No. 7 seeded Phillip Kohlschreiber defeated Olivier Rochus in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The match took one hour and 24 minutes. Kohlschreiber knocked 11 aces and won 84 percent of his first service points. The 28-year-old German will face Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who defeated his qualifier opponent in straight sets, in the second round.
No. 8 seeded Jarkko Nieminen took three sets, after dropping the middle set, to make it to the second round. Nieminen’s two hour and five minute defeat of frenchman Maxime Teixeira included 11 saved break points by Teixeira.
Nieminen advanced to face Paul-Henri Mathieu, who defeated his opening round opponent and gave up eight games on the way to victory.
All of the the tournament seeds remain in the tournament.
Nicolas Mahut of France and Michael Russell of America also moved into the second round.
