In 17 minutes, Roger Federer won the first set of his Dubai Championships opening round match. The second set took a bit longer -- 50 minutes, to be exact. It did go to a tiebreaker, but Federer won that too.

So that’s a 6-0, 7-6 (8) victory for the Swiss and a spot in the second round in Dubai.
As for tournament No. 3 seed Andy Murray, it took him three sets to win in Dubai on Tuesday.
Murray defeated Germany’s Michael Berrer in two hours and six minutes, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The match was Murray’s first appearance since his loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian open in January.
Murray aced the 116th-ranked German just seven times, three of which came in the third set. From SI.com:
“It was quite a frustrating match because I was up a break in the second set, and each time I think gave it straight back,” Murray said. “And then the third set again I went up a break and gave the break straight back. So I could have made it a little bit easier for myself if I played a bit better.”
Murray will face qualifier Marco Chiudinelli (who also had a three-set victory for his first round match), while Federer takes on Feliciano Lopez in the second round.

Mikhail Youzhny def. Richard Gasquet, who retired due to flu symptoms. He had already dropped the opening set, 6-3.
Flavio Cipolla def. Ivan Ljubicic, 6-2, 7-5.
