Sony Ericsson Open 2012 Day 12 Update: Venus Williams Loses In Quarterfinals

After three straight matches that lasted three sets, American Venus Williams finally got to play a straight set match.

This one, though, didn’t go in her favor.

The 30-year-old tennis star was knocked out from the Sony Ericsson Open on Day 12 when she lost to world No. 5 Agnieszka Radwanska. The final score was 6-4, 6-1.

The older Williams sister was ousted from the tournament just a day after her sister was dropped from the tournament in Key Biscayne, Fla.

The previous three matches had taken a toll on Williams. Reports say she looked weary and her serve, as the AP wrote, “lacked its usual velocity.”

However, Williams did make it into the quarterfinals of the first match she played in since the 2011 U.S. Open, during which she withdrew with an autoimmune disease that causes fatigue and joint pain.

Williamss’ weariness shone through in her stats. She committed 28 unforced errors and won only four of 25 second service points.

From the AP:

Williams is ranked No. 134 and projected to climb next week back into the top 90.
