Day three of the 2012 Monte-Carlo Masters is now complete, with two top-four seeds winning Tuesday to move on to the third round in Monaco. First up, Andy Murray, the world’s No. 4-ranked player and the tournament’s No. 3 seed, defeated Viktor Troiki of Russia 6-0, 6-3 to advance. Frenchman and world No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, slotted at No. 4 in Monte Carlo, also had little trouble, taking out Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-2, 6-4 to set up a date with world No. 19 Fernando Verdasco of Spain, the Masters’ No. 13 seed.

Verdasco also took part in second-round play Tuesday, though he had to come back after dropping hist first set against Ivan Dodig. He rebounded strong, however, winning the final two sets 6-3, 6-1 after falling 3-6 in the first.
Several first-round matches also took place Tuesday. No. 10 Feliciano Lopez was upset by Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in straight sets in what was arguably the most shocking result on the day. No. 14 Florian Mayer of Germany also lost, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, to unranked Mikhail Kukushkin.
