The top two ranked men’s tennis players will do battle Sunday, as No. 1 Roger Federer will face No. 2 Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2012 Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center In Cincinnati.
2012 Western & Southern Open Daily Match Preview: Roger Federer Seeks Record 5th Title In Cincinnati
Federer has won the event four times, including beating Djokovic in the 2010 tournament final. Federer is vying for his record fifth Western & Southern Open Championship, while Djokovic seeks his first tournament win in his third final at the event.
Federer beat Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinals in their last meeting, en route to winning his 17th grand slam title.
The women’s final will feature a matchup of two players who eliminated the Williams sisters from Cincinnati. No. 5 seed Angelique Kerber ended No. 2 seed Serena Williams’ 19-match winning streak in the quarterfinals on Friday, while No. 9 seed Na Li took out Venus Williams on Saturday in the semifinals.
