    Western & Southern Open 2012: Roger Federer Easily Defeats Novak Djokovic 6-0, 7-6

    For the record fifth time in his career Roger Federer earned an ATP crown at the 2012 Western & Southern Open Sunday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center In Cincinnati. The No. 1-ranked player in the world dominated No. 2 Novak Djokovic 6-0, 7-6 (7) in the men’s final to take home the tournament’s Rockwood Cup.

    From the start, the Serbian superstar was no match for his Swiss counterpart who won the first set in only 20 minutes, allowing just 10 points. Djokovic had his 15-match winning streak on the hard courts snapped, while Federer earned his second straight victory over Djokovic. The last time the two stars met was in the Wimbledon semifinals.

    The 2012 Western & Southern Open featured another great day of tennis on Friday. We are getting into the later rounds of the tournament and many of the world’s best players remain in the hunt for a title.

    On the men’s side of things, No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic defeated No. 12 Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic took the match in two sets, winning 6-3 and 6-2. The other quarterfinals match was between six-seed Juan Martin Del Potro and unranked Jeremy Chardy, with Del Potro winning both sets, 6-1 and 6-3. Roger Federer swept his match with Mardy Fish to advance to the semifinals.

    The best players in men’s tennis will be invading the Center Court at the 2012 Western & Southern Open from Cincinnati, Ohio on Wednesday, as top seeds Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are all scheduled to begin their second round matches during the day.

    The 56-player men’s draw includes eight first-round byes for the top seeds, so Federer, Djokovic and Murray will each be taking the court for the first time on Wednesday while their opponents will enter with a warm-up match under their belt.     Day two of the 2012 Western & Southern Open gave fans in Cincinnati, Ohio a monumental upset in the men’s draw on Tuesday, as the tournament’s 16th-ranked player, Andy Roddick, was defeated in straight sets by France’s Jeremy Chardy, 6-7, 4-7, (3-6).

    Playing in his first ATP event since picking up a much-needed victory on July 22, Roddick battled a worsening back injury en route to losing to the 25-year-old Frenchman, a player who has never once advanced past the fourth round in any Grand Slam tournament. Clearly upset about the loss and that his health for the U.S. Open is now in question, the former world No. 1 still doesn’t have a clear idea what his timetable might look like.

    Western & Southern Open 2012 Results: Donald Young Suffers 17th Straight Loss

    The bigger names don’t start until Tuesday, but Monday’s first round at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati had its share of upsets.

    A pair of No. 13 seeds fell, as Alexandr Dolgopolov lost to Nikolay Davydenko 6-1, 6-1 on the men’s side, and Jelena Jankovic fell to Peng Shuai 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) on the women’s side. Elsewhere, No. 15 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber was defeated by American Brian Baker 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3).
