2012 Western & Southern Open: Federer, Djokovic, Murray All Advance To Next Round

After Tuesday’s action saw 16th-seeded Andy Roddick fall to unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, the favorites all advanced in their matches on Wednesday at the 2012 Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio.

Battling heat and humidity, world No. 2 Novak Djokovic and defending Western & Southern champion Andy Murray both advanced in straight sets in their opening-round matches. Top-seeded Roger Federer likewise cruised into the second round with a straight-set victory over Alex Bogomolov Jr.

Djokovic is coming off a win at the Rogers Cup in Toronto on Sunday.

On the women’s side, top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland advanced to the third round. Venus Williams also advanced, but was pushed to a second three-set match in as many days.

The complete men’s scoreboard can be found here, with the women’s scoreboard available here.
