Royal Rumble 2016 results: Charlotte beats Becky Lynch, but Sasha Banks gets the last laugh

The Boss thinks she’s the Divas Champion in waiting.

Once again, Charlotte retained the Divas Championship at the Royal Rumble, beating Becky Lynch with the help of her father. But the big story came afterwards when Sasha Banks showed up and beat up both contenders before holding up the belt herself.

Charlotte and Becky came up to the main roster in a team together during painful, though ultimately successful Divas Revolution. Their best friend breakup came as the result of Charlotte decided she’d do anything to win and keep the title, just like her father, Ric Flair. Since that split, Flair has been in his daughter’s corner for all of her matches, regularly cheating for her, including in title matches against Becky. On Raw, Lynch baited Flair — Charlotte’s manager — into giving Becky a title shot.

Besides some great wrestling, this match featured Ric Flair grabbing Becky Lynch and forcibly kissing her. It was a bad thing.

But it was also a perfect reflection of what this whole feud is about — Ric Flair will do anything to make sure his daughter wins, and he cheated to help Charlotte retain the title later in the match. When Lynch put Charlotte in her finisher, the Disarmer, Flair distracted her by throwing his jacket over her face. Once the hold was broken, Charlotte hit a spear for the second time in the match and scored a pin to keep her retain the Divas Championship. The win wasn’t enough either and she delivered a beatdown to Becky afterwards.

That wasn’t the end either. Sasha Banks made a surprise appearance and kicked Becky in the gut. She pretended to congratulate Charlotte, then when the champ turned her head, Sasha put her in the Banks Statement and put her to sleep. We have a new Divas title feud, and it’s going to be great.
