The Boston Celtics have gotten off to a 20-4 start despite a multitude of nagging injuries to Rajon Rondo. Rondo has suffered from plantar fasciitis in both his feet, a sore left hamstring and pain in his left knee already this season. Now, you can add another injury to the list: a sprained ankle.
Rajon Rondo Injury: Celtics Guards Suffers Sprained Ankle In Win Over Knicks
Rondo said he suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the team' 118-116 win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. He was trying to make a quick move and his ankle hit the ground and turned a bit. He went out of the game for three minutes to receive treatment, but came back in later and ended up playing on the injury. It's yet another example of Rondo playing through the kind of pain that keeps most players out of action.
Rondo wants to continue playing through the pain. However, the team is preparing to play without him when the team takes on the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday. Via A Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England:
Although Rondo is hopeful that he will play against the Hawks, his teammates are already gearing up as if their playmaker won't be on the floor.
"He's been banged up over the last month," said Paul Pierce, who hit the game-winning shot with 0.4 seconds to play. "Probably a slim chance we'll have him tomorrow. We played a few games without him. It happens, but hey, what's new for us? We're used to guys going down. We keep finding ways."
For the Celtics’ sake, it might be best to sit Rondo down for a bit so he can get healthy. At 20-4, they’re in good enough shape to drop a few games and still be near the top of the Eastern Conference.
