Rajon Rondo has suffered through a ton of nagging injuries this season, and you can now add a sprained ankle to the list. Rondo suffered that injury in the fourth quarter of the Celtics’ 118-116 win over the Knicks on Wednesday night. He played through it, but there’s a good chance he will have to sit out on Thursday when the Celtics take on the Atlanta Hawks.
Rajon Rondo Injury: Should The Boston Celtics Rest Him?
But there are some people who believe Rondo should sit out even longer than that. At 20-4, the Celtics have given themselves some breathing room to come back to the back should they decide to sit Rondo. That’s why SB Nation’s Celtics Blog is pleading with the organization to give Rondo a break to get healthy again.
Please, Doc (or whomever this may concern). I’m begging now. Handcuff Rondo to the bench if you have to. Or, better yet, kidnap him and force him to stay in the locker room, where he can elevate and ice his sprained ankle.
Winning regular season games is nice, but the ultimate goal is an NBA championship. Keep your eyes on the Larry O’Brien trophy. Let Rondo rest until his maladies are healed, or at least improved.
Considering the Celtics went to the NBA Finals despite a lackluster regular season last year, resting Rondo may indeed be the smart move long-term.
