After Rajon Rondo played through yet another injury, this time a sprained ankle, in the Celtics’ 118-116 win over the New York Knicks on Friday night, Celtics fans implored the team to consider letting Rondo sit out some games to heal. It looks like the Celtics are on the same page.
Rajon Rondo Injury: Celtics Guard Expected To Miss ‘A Couple Weeks’ With Sprained Ankle
In a radio interview on WEEI, general manager Danny Ainge said the team has decided to let Rondo sit out for “a couple weeks.” Via Paul Flannery:
Danny Ainge just said on WEEI that Rajon Rondo would be out for ‘a couple of weeks.’ It’s the ankle.
Rondo suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of last night’s game, but played through it, albeit while in visible pain. He’s also suffered from plantar fasciitis, left knee pain and a sore left hamstring this season. He’s clearly very important to the Celtics, but the team is 20-4 and can afford to play shorthanded while he recovers. It would be worse if Rondo was not ready in June.
