The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a loss on Tuesday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings but in the grand scheme of things it may not hurt them as much as you'd think. They'll now have to play in the wildcard round but because of the loss, the Eagles have now locked themselves into the third seed in the NFL playoffs. In other words, there's nothing to play for next week against the Dallas Cowboys.
Michael Vick’s Injury May Keep Him Out Against Cowboys In Week 17
That’s good news for QB Michael Vick, who suffered an injury against the Vikings (but didn’t come out). Though Eagles coach Andy Reid was vague on Vick’s status for next weekend, it doesn’t sound like he’ll play.
“I’m not even sure he could get back from what he has now, the quad [contusion],” Reid said. “It was painful yesterday and it as painful today. If he had to play today, he couldn’t. It’s tight, it’s sore. He’ll be all right down the road.”
If this was a must-win game, it’s possible Vick tries to play, and the injury is worsened. But with nothing to play for, there’s no reason to play him. Reid indicated in his news conference this week that he isn’t sure how much any of the Eagles starters will be playing, Vick included.
“As far as how we play the guys, I haven’t finalized that, what I’m going to do there. I’m looking at it now. I wanted to make sure we took care of this game and got it past us. You got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury-wise. Some guys need the play-time, some guys need the rest-time. I got to look at that. You still want to win the game. I still haven’t gotten that far. I will, right after this meeting.”
I could see the starters playing for a series or two but beyond that it doesn’t make much sense to keep them in. Check out Bleeding Green Nation to see what Eagles fans are saying about Vick’s injury.
