Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton Wants To Be Released

Over the offseason Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton skipped some OTAs because he wanted to be released by the team. There were rumors and reports that the Cowboys had placed him on the trading block but nothing came of it.

With cut day looming, and Crayton realizing he doesn't have much of a future with Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Roy Williams ahead of him, he wants to be released now, according to his agent.

“It seems he doesn’t figure in their plans so it’s not logical to be on the roster until Saturday,” Fred Lyles said. “We don’t see the use in prolonging it.”

He’s due $2 million which seems way too high for a fourth receiver.

SB Nation’s Blogging The Boys has been going over the Patrick Crayton issue and have a nice recap of it all here.

The Cowboys have until Saturday afternoon to get their roster down to 53 players. Teams may be hesitant to trade for Crayton if they think he’s going to be released on Saturday anyway.

If released, Crayton would quickly be among the top receivers available on the free agent market.
