2011 NFL Draft: Can Jake Locker Be Third QB Off The Board?

Washington QB Jake Locker is trying to position himself as the third quarterback taken in the 2011 NFL draft behind QB Cam Newton and QB Blaine Gabbert. It’s unclear where Locker could go but I think the highest you’ll see him is on the edge of the top 10.

The Washington Redskins are selecting 10th and Mike Shanahan has been rumored to have some interest in Locker. Shanahan obviously had most of his success with QB John Elway and, while people aren't claiming Locker is the next Elway, some are wondering if Shanahan can put his magic back to work on Locker. The Redskins, though, have QB Donovan McNabb in the fold and, while they may opt to trade him if/when the labor situation is determined, it's also possible they keep decide to hang onto him and go in another direction other than quarterback.

The other team that could take a look at him is the Minnesota Vikings, who are drafting 12th. They're in desperate need of a quarterback and will almost assuredly address the position via free agency (if that ever comes) or the draft. I'm not sure Locker is a day one starter but he may have to be with the Vikings.

Locker isn’t guaranteed to be the third quarterback off the board but, if he is, I could see him going as high as 10th to the Redskins or 12th to the Vikings.
