Ray Emery's incredible NHL comeback took another awesome step on Wednesday night. In his first start in the league since February 1, 2010, Emery made 30 stops on 31 saves to boost the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.

About a year ago, Emery faced what was then thought to be a career-ending injury when he was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in his hip. The disease degrades the bone, which is obviously not good for anybody, let alone a hockey player who puts a lot of strain on that joint. His comeback, especially in such a relatively short period of time, is nothing short of amazing.
The win wasn’t just a big one for Emery, though. For the Ducks as a whole, the win boosted them over the big bold line in the middle of the Western Conference standings. Anaheim now sits tied in points with Calgary, but they hold the eighth spot thanks to holding two games in hand over the Flames.

Leafs 3, Hurricanes 1: One night after earning a big, important two points over the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina took a step back despite firing almost 18 more shots on goal than their foe, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dion Phaneuf scored two goals to give the Leafs a huge win that keeps them just four points out of the final playoff spot and just two points behind the Canes.
