The streak is dead. Long live the streak.
Capitals Vs. Red Wings: Henrik Zetterberg Scores 2 Goals As Wings Bust Caps’ Win Streak
Okay, so which nine-game streak are we talking about here? The first one that likely comes to mind is the nine-game win streak of the Washington Capitals, which was snapped on Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena by the Detroit Red Wings. How was that streak snapped, you ask?
Well, Henrik Zetterberg scored two goals to end his own nine-game scoring drought as the Wings escaped with a 3-2 win. Brian Rafalski assisted on all three goals -- the two from Zetterberg and one from Valtteri Filppula. Michal Neuvirth made 32 saves for the Capitals, but that wasn't quite enough.
With the win, Detroit gained a little breathing room over third place San Jose in the Western Conference. The loss doesn’t help the Caps in their quest to win the Eastern Conference, because while they still sit just one point back of first place Philadelphia, they’re giving up three games in hand to the Flyers.
