The Portland Timbers have not exactly gotten off to the start they had hoped, failing to have won a match during their season-opening three-game road trip. In fact, as they get ready to open newly refurbished Jeld-Wen Field on Thursday, they find themselves with the fewest points in MLS and facing a Chicago Fire team that has looked much better than many had expected.
The Timbers will also being playing in front of a sold out crowd, and are starting a new era in a history that stretches back nearly 40 years. Despite all of this, Stumptown Footy, SB Nation’s Portland Timbers blog, says the players and coaches are feeling only excitement:
In the end, this is good news for the team. While it’s a mistake to believe the Timbers aren’t feeling any pressure at all, it’s important to differentiate between harmful pressure and excited pressure as the team prepares for an historic game.
