Last Friday night, Cardinals second baseman Skip Schumaker injured his elbow while taking a swing. He didn't play over the weekend, was evaluated Monday by team doctors, and now it seems the Cardinals are going to send Schumaker to the disabled list.
Skip Schumaker Injury To Send Cardinals Infielder To DL
Schumaker's dealing with a hyperextended elbow, and while he says it's feeling better, it hurts when he swings and it has an effect on his throws, so it only makes sense to get him some rest rather than push him and risk something worse. While Schumaker is out, the Cardinals are expected to give opportunities to both Tyler Greene and Daniel Descalso. Descalso made his first Major League appearance at second base on Sunday.
Over 59 plate appearances, Schumaker has batted .241 with four doubles and a homer. Greene and Descalso shouldn’t have too much trouble filling in for his bat for however long he’s out, which shouldn’t be much more than the minimum 15 days at most.
