On Friday night, Braves starter Brandon Beachy was forced out of his start against the Phillies with a left oblique strain. The nature of the injury, which was apparently suffered during Beachy’s at-bat in the second inning, was confirmed by the Braves’ official Twitter account.
Brandon Beachy Injury: Braves Starter Strains Left Oblique, Leaves Game Vs. Phillies
There's no word yet on the severity of Beachy's injury, or whether the Braves expect him to miss a start. In his stead, Cristhian Martinez struck out the side in third inning, and SB Nation Atlanta speculates that should Beachy be kept out of action, Martinez may step in to make the first start of his career.
Including Friday night’s start, in which Beachy surrendered three runs on six hits in two innings, the 24-year-old holds a 3.45 ERA and 46 strikeouts through 44.1 innings. He’s served as a major component of an Atlanta pitching staff that’s surrendered the second-fewest runs of any staff in the National League.
