Okay, so it's still not official. But all signs point to Julio Teheran starting Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, with Brandon Beachy now on the Disabled List. Mike Minor might have been a candidate, but Sunday afternoon he made his scheduled start with Class-AAA Gwinnett. Rodrigo Lopez might have been a candidate, but he's Rodrigo Lopez (which is terribly unfair, and not even all that clever).
Top Prospect Julio Teheran Will Start Wednesday For Braves
Teheran, meanwhile, is considered in some quarters the top pitching prospect in the minors. Barely 20, Teheran's got a 1.91 ERA in six triple-A starts this spring. He made a spot start against the Phillies on May 7, but struggled with his command got knocked out in the fifth inning. This week's start figures to be isolated, too; because of off-days, the Braves won't need a No. 5 starter again until May 31. But with Beachy expected to miss at least a month, someone is going to get another shot in two weeks. It might be Teheran again, but don't count out Minor. Or Lopez, who's also been excellent with Gwinnett.
