So Beachy doesn’t have the standard oblique strain. He’s got something a little worse, and while it isn’t going to end his season or anything, it will keep him out longer than was initially expected.
Because of some scheduled off days, the Braves will be able to skip Beachy’s replacement a few times if desired.

Fredi Gonzalez referred to the injury as a “classic” oblique strain, which is an injury that can keep a guy out for a number of weeks. Not only does it really really hurt; it takes a while to heal completely, and you have to wait until it heals completely or it’ll just happen again. Oblique injuries have this nasty tendency to nag.

On Friday night, Braves starter Brandon Beachy was forced out of his start against the Phillies with a left oblique strain. The nature of the injury, which was apparently suffered during Beachy’s at-bat in the second inning, was confirmed by the Braves’ official Twitter account.
Including Friday night’s start, in which Beachy surrendered three runs on six hits in two innings, the 24-year-old holds a 3.45 ERA and 46 strikeouts through 44.1 innings. He’s served as a major component of an Atlanta pitching staff that’s surrendered the second-fewest runs of any staff in the National League.
