In the middle of May, Atlanta Braves starter Brandon Beachy sustained an oblique strain. Everybody's sustaining oblique strains these days, but Beachy's looked particularly severe, and it was said that he wouldn't return for at least a month.
Brandon Beachy Activated From DL, Starts Wednesday
Now, five and a half weeks later, Beachy is back. He's been activated from the disabled list, and is starting against the Blue Jays as of this writing. There were no hiccups or setbacks during his recovery, and he declared himself ready for the majors after making one five-inning rehab start with triple-A Gwinnett.
Beachy returns to some great numbers - a 3.45 ERA and a 3.8 K/BB over eight starts and 44-1/3 innings. He's a critical component of a deep and talented Braves rotation. Prospect Mike Minor made five starts in Beachy's absence and posted a 3.72 ERA, and since the Braves won four of those games, it looks as if Beachy's injury didn't end up hurting them much, if at all.
