Cardinals’ Lance Berkman And Matt Holliday Out Of Lineup With Injuries

Wednesday night, with center fielder Colby Rasmus sidelined by an abdominal strain, the St. Louis Cardinals also lost left fielder Matt Holliday and right fielder Lance Berkman to injuries. Holliday came out of the game with a tight quadriceps muscle in the third inning, while Berkman hurt his wrist while making a diving catch in the fifth inning. Afterward, Berkman said he might have "jammed" his wrist, but later suggested he might have sprained it.

X-rays on Berkman’s wrist were negative (which is a good thing), but team doctors are still looking at the injury and there’s no word yet on when he might return to the lineup.

Holliday’s reportedly available for pinch-hitting duties Thursday afternoon, while Berkman’s not expected to play at all.

On a happier note, Rasmus is back in the lineup Thursday, a sorely needed bit of good news for a team that’s been badly bitten by the injury bug this spring.
