Boston Red Sox righthander Clay Buchholz had been having back trouble that had bothered him for his last few starts.
Clay Buchholz Injury: Red Sox Righthander To Disabled List
Today, the Red Sox placed Buchholz on the disabled list, according to SI.com, and recalled lefthander Andrew Miller:
Miller signed as a minor league free agent during the offseason. He is scheduled to start Monday against San Diego. He was 3-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 13 games - 12 starts - with Pawtucket.
Miller was the No. 1 pick of the Tigers in the 2006 draft, but did not have much success there and was sent to the Marlins in the Miguel Cabrera deal. He didn't do very well in Florida, either, and wound up with the Red Sox last offseason.
Buchholz had a breakout season in 2010, going 17-7 with a 2.33 ERA and finishing sixth in Cy Young Award voting. This year, the back troubles have had him only 3-4, 3.48; he had two decent starts in his last two outings, but the back got too troublesome and he’s now landed on the DL.
