Clay Buchholz Injury: Boston Starter Likely Out For Season With Stress Fracture

Clay Buchholz hasn't made a start for the Boston Red Sox since June 16 and it doesn't look like he'll be returning to the starting rotation anytime soon. After going to see back specialist Dr. Thomas Watkins last week, it has been revealed that Buchholz has a stress fracture in his lower back and that he's likely to miss the rest of the regular season.

Buchholz’s issue was originally thought to be a muscular problem, but continued discomfort caused the team to send him to Dr. Watkins and have him undergo an MRI. The MRI revealed the stress fracture, while both Watkins and the team have not given out any information other than the diagnosis of a stress fracture in the lower back.

A potential return for Buchholz in the postseason hasn’t been ruled out yet, but it looks very unlikely that he will pitch again at any point this season. Buchholz had a great 2010 season, but his back troubles have slowed him down this year, and he had a 3-4 record with a 3.48 ERA before going on the disabled list.
