Mets third baseman David Wright has been on the disabled list since the middle of May due to a stress fracture in his back, sustained during an on-field dive. Initially it didn't look like he'd miss too much time, but he was put on the DL, and then an examination in early June revealed that his back wasn't healing as quickly as everyone hoped it would.
David Wright Injury: Mets Third Baseman Cleared For Baseball Activities
After that exam, Wright was scheduled for another later in the month. He just had that exam, and this one went much better. David Lennon:
David Wright has been cleared to resume baseball activities, so maybe he's another 2-plus weeks away.
Wright’s back, clearly, has made a lot of progress. He’s been participating in some very limited workouts lately, and now he’s been cleared to up the intensity, so a return to the Mets is not far off. Barring a setback, Wright could be in the lineup before the All-Star break.
Wright owns a .741 OPS on the season. Without him, the Mets have leaned primarily on Justin Turner, who's done a fine job as a fill-in, but he's no David Wright, so there are better days ahead.
