Derek Jeter is on the disabled list with a minor calf strain. You may have heard about this. His run toward 3,000 hits was rudely interrupted by the injury, and he's currently working himself back into shape.
Derek Jeter Injury: Yankees Shortstop Runs, Fields Grounders
Wednesday’s update: progress!
There is no timetable for Derek Jeter's return from a strained right calf, but the Yankees captain is making progress in his rehabilitation program.
...
Along with some power, Jeter showed progress in his baserunning. He picked up his speed from past days on sprints around the diamond. He ran seven from home plate to first, one from first to second base and two from first to third base.
Jeter took a few sessions in batting practice. He ran the bases with moderate intensity. He fielded a handful of grounders, and made a handful of throws. The running is the most important part, since Jeter hurt his leg and only started running on Monday. He’s getting closer, and it shouldn’t be long before he’s back in the lineup.
When, specifically, will that be? I don’t know, but soon. The Yankees begin a six-game road trip on July 1, and return home on July 7. While Jeter still has more rehabbing to do, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him join that road trip in progress.
