Well, this is starting to get old. From SB Nation Cleveland:
Grady Sizemore Injury: Back On DL With Knee Problem
Just as Grady Sizemore was starting to hit again, his troublesome right knee broke down…again. The Cleveland Indians placed their oft-injured centerfielder on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right knee. Pitcher David Huff was called up to replace him and will start the first game of Monday’s day-night doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins.
Sizemore opened the season on the DL, but finally returned to the Indians' lineup on April 17 and hit brilliantly in his first 10 games back.
Since then, not so much. From May 1 through today, Sizemore’s batted .203/.274/.380, with a couple of weeks on the DL in that stretch. While it seemed that the Indians need Sizemore to contend, they’re still in first place despite him contributing very little since April. So there seems little point in rushing him back, and this stint on the disabled list might last longer than two weeks.
Of course, the problem is that the Indians don't have anybody around who's even remotely qualified to pick up the slack in Sizemore's absence. Michael Brantley can play center field, but the corner spots look likes wastelands with Shin-Soo Choo out of action and various fill-ins failing to hit this season, at all. Maybe it's time to see if triple-A infielder Luis Valbuena can handle left field?
