Grady Sizemore's big comeback season has hit another speed bump. Sizemore went on the disabled list earlier this year with a knee injury. He went back on the DL again recently with a knee injury. And now, from Jerry Crasnick, we learn that he's had his abdomen cut open by doctors for the second time in his career:
Grady Sizemore Injury: Indians Outfielder Out 4-6 Weeks After Abdominal Surgery
Grady Sizemore underwent abdominal surgery for a sports hernia today. Recovery time: 4 to 6 weeks.
The shame here is that Sizemore’s recent knee injury didn’t seem so bad, with an MRI not revealing significant damage. Sizemore himself sais that the problem wasn’t serious, and it looked like he’d make a fairly quick recovery. But this surgery obviously pushes back his timetable a little more.
From Sizemore: “The injury which resulted in today’s surgery has been bothering me since the slide in May.”
The upside is that this extended rest should cure what’s been ailing his knee. When he first went on the DL, Sizemore had a .974 OPS. Since then, .666.
Cleveland's starting outfield on Wednesday was Luis Valbuena, Ezequiel Carrera and Austin Kearns. Carrera has gotten each of the starts since Sizemore went down. The Indians are monitoring Coco Crisp, and one can expect them to be somewhat active in the outfielder trade market as they look to fill holes and remain in the race.
