George John has yet to officially join the Blackburn Rovers, but it sure seems as if FC Dallas is prepared to move on without their starting center back for the rest of the season. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, coach Schellas Hyndman tried to take a positive attitude about the impending transfer, noting that the team used the money from Kenny Cooper's midseason transfer in 2009 to essentially build this team.
Schellas Hyndman On George John-To-Blackburn: FC Dallas Wasn’t ‘Place He Wanted To Be’
While acknowledging that the team will be hurt in the immediate future, he acknowledged that John has been hoping for something like this to materialize:
“We’ve been trying to re-sign him for over a year but he basically chose that salary so he didn’t have to re-sign. I think he was looking at maybe a European passport or other opportunities. But this quite honestly isn’t the place he wanted to be,” Hyndman said. “If that’s the case, I think ownership and everyone else are probably making the right decision for the future of our club so that we can compete. This was not an easy decision for everyone to make.”
In the short-term, it looks as if Andrew Jacobson will slide back from the midfield to play center back alongside Ugo Ihemelu. FC Dallas was already a bit thin along the backline and are now dealing with an injury to Zach Loyd.
